Current Affairs 28 May 2014 ~ Sarkar Naukri Job Now ::: 1. Dalia Grybauskaite emerges victorious in Presidential elections of Lithuania. The incumbent president, so-called Iron Lady of Lithuania, thus becomes the first person to serve two consecutive term as the President of this Baltic state. She, President since 2009, gets another 5-year term as such.

2. Ahmed Maitiq has been sworn-in as the new Prime Minister of Libiya, the 5th since the fall of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. He won the vote of confidence by receiving 83 votes out of the total 93. The 42-year old replaces acting Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni.

3. French Open 2014: For the first time in the history of Grand Slam tournament, both the men’s and women’s singles champions of the previous Grand Slam crashes out in the first round itself. Australian Open women’s singles champion Li Na was stunned by Kristina Mladenovic whereas her counterpart Wawrinka lost to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain.

4. Assam to apply DNA based tracking system to nab Rhino poachers. The Rhino DNA Indexing System (RhODIS), will create a database of each individual rhino’s unique DNA profile which can be referenced when presenting legal evidence in cases of rhino poaching.

5. Centre constitutes ‘Special Investigation Team’ on Black Money in compliance with the judgement of Supreme Court. Large amounts of money is stashed abroad by evading taxes or generated through unlawful activities. The SIT will be headed by Justice MB Shah as Chairman and Justice Arijit Pasayat as its Vice Chairman.
